In year 2 the children take on new challenges with increased independence. They learn all about the local area and make comparisons between England and Kenya. They study the Great Fire of London and have to decide if a dinosaur would make a good pet?
In Spring Term the school’s ‘Health Week’ enhances our topic on ‘Health and Growth. The children enjoy their visit to the Life Bus and learn about many different aspects of looking after their body. This leads onto sorting and classifying living things, in the Summer Term. Hopefully, once again we will receive a visit from Andrew Smith – ‘The Animal Man’, who in the past have been accompanied by his many fascinating friends, including a toad, a lizard, a tarantula,as well as giant snails and millipedes. Other highlights of the topic are observing minute caterpillars as they develop into butterflies, and our Minibeast Hunt which takes place in the school grounds.
During the year we have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports, such as football, hockey, athletics, tennis, multiskills, gymnastics and dance.
At the end of the year, we hope that the children’s hard work and achievements have prepared them for the new challenges they are going to face at the start of Key Stage 2.
