Keston Church of England Primary School

Physical Education

Keston has a reputation for high quality sport resulting in outstanding pupil achievements in both Borough and National competitions over many years.

Sport plays a vital part in our school ethos, particularly in the aspect of teamwork, leadership and empathy.

At Keston we value the opportunities of attempting and encouraging new sporting experiences. In our annual Health Week children have experienced Kung Foo, Street Dance, Archery, Yoga Bugs, Circus Skills and more…Year 5 attend a two day residential trip to Bowles Outdoor Adventure Centre where the children experience, among other things, low ropes, dry-slope skiing, abseiling, climbing and kayaking.

PE supports a child’s physical development, movements, skills and body confidence and knowledge but also contributes to their mental and emotional health and well-being. PE also contributes to the development of decision making, analysis, social skills, teamwork, communication and leadership. It builds the foundation for future participation and performance in sport which leads to healthy active lifestyles. All these competences develop confidence which we believe directly enhance learning and lay the foundation for being active participants in our world.

In past years Keston pupils have achieved a number of impressive accolades including representing London in the National Tri-Golf Competition where they came 6th. As Bromley Borough winners, Team Keston have competed in the London Youth Games in Indoor Athletics and Tri-Golf, both boys and girls Kwik Cricket as well as Gym. Other notable successes include: Bromley Rounders Champions, Small Schools Swimming Gala winners for 7 years, Small Schools Cross Country winners with many top five placed individuals and Girls and Boys Football Finalists

One lasting memory the children treasure is when Y2 to Y6 visited the Paralympics in September 2012. The school takes part in an annual Boccia tournament where able bodied and physically impaired children compete on an equal basis. The children also enjoy taking part in Sitting Volleyball.
